LAST MONTH, I was in Newcastle for a gig and my sister suggested a restaurant near her halls for food before hand. Her pick was a cute little cocktail/food haven called Nancy’s Bordello. It was decorated with a variety of light shades hanging from different angles on the ceiling. The light-shades were not all the same colour or size, which gave a darker, cosier feeling with the added effect of subdued lighting.
The selection of the cocktails catered for every personal taste. From gin based to flavoured tequila there was something for everyone. I ordered a gin and raspberry vodka with lemonade served with ice in a freezer bag, complete with jelly fish, to imitate the notion of a goldfish won in a fair. My sister ordered a flavoured tequila cocktail, which was sweet and refreshing. For food, we both ordered burgers. I was feeling extremely famished and ordered a ‘Burger me senseless’ burger which was a double beef burger topped with cheese and bacon, accompanied by a side serving of salad and home-made chips. It was delicious and wonderfully filling. The menu can be found on their webpage, nancysbordello.com.
Great food, chilled atmosphere and cheap drinks all are accumulating factors as to why this is a brilliant place to eat out in Newcastle. As Newcastle is a student city, the prices are not outrageous, but they go a step further by offering student discount on certain drinks (especially in happy hour) and on food. This, combined with excellent and friendly service, just emphasises what a fabulous place it is to eat.
