IT’S BEEN a stressful few weeks. There’s been the circus of the Christmas holidays, seeing all the friends and relatives you’ve missed for a year. There’s the lying around on the sofa nursing your head and your stomach after just one more wafer thin mint. There’s the horrible sweaty panic of realising that exam is this week, not next week.

So with all the tension of the last month finally over for at least a few days, your thoughts, like everyone else’s, are probably turning to where you will propose to your long-term (Or short-term – we’re not judging) lady/man friend.

No? Well, fair enough. You’ve got a lot on. But if the thought had crossed your mind and you were struggling for somewhere special, you’re in luck. In the build-up to St Dwynwen’s Day and Valentine’s Day, Wales Online have released their top locations from across the country to get down on one knee and pop the question; and would you believe it, Constitution Hill and the Old College have made the cut.

We here at ASM can see the appeal; massive sweeping view of the Irish Sea, a restaurant for a candlelit meal, the town illuminated and twinkling in the night.

Even in the day, you can see the magic of it. You could’ve just walked back from Borth along the cliffside, and just as you reach a bench for a well-earned sit, you can pretend to tie your lace and whip out a ring, subtle as you like. Of course we’re rooting for all of you to get a “Yes!”, but even if your affections have been misplaced and you find yourself shunned, you can console yourself with a round of frisbee golf. They’ve got every base covered.

Elsewhere, if that’s not how you picture your proposal, Old College apparently makes for an equally enchanting spot, even before its possible remodelling. If your partner has been dropping hints that they’d love a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner-for-two in Hogwarts’ Great Hall (and to be fair, it does look amazing) but you haven’t got a spare £500 rattling about in the piggy bank, this is your best substitute. That money be better placed on the Aberystwyth coast, with your own personalised brand of ‘wooing’. Think picnics, not love potions.

The rest of the list is made up of stunning natural views, from the peaks in Snowdon or a sunset over Lake Vyrnwy, but do any of them really capture the character of this country better than Aber? Can they truly compare to the purest love you and your significant other share? Can you go for a Marco’s if it all blows up in your face? Exactly.
