We accept poetry, artworks, essays, and anything you can think to submit. Work can be on any person, period, or event in LGBT*+ history. We will showcase these works on our WordPress site or ‘The Pride In Our History’ project. Then, towards the end of the month we will also hold a fabulous LGBT*+ night, where we will auction the submitted works from ‘Pride in our History’! Money raised will go to an LGBT*+ charity. We also plan on having poetry readings and will end the night with a disco.
Other events include the ‘Love is Love’ campaign. This will be held on the 11th, on the Union concourse from 18:30–19:30. This is a campaign to demonstrate that discrimination must be a part of history. We will also be accepting donations for Broken Rainbow, the UK’s only LGBT*+ domestic violence charity, as the charity is close to shutting down and we wish to prevent this. We have a red/pink t-shirt social after this campaign to celebrate Valentines., starting at 20:00 in Scholars Pub.
On the 18th, we have teamed up with the Fashion Society to have a vintage photo shoot. This will be held in the Old College History Room from 18.30–20.00. Come dressed as any historical person or in vintage clothing to celebrate queer fashion and those in our past who made a better future for us today. This will then be followed by a vintage social at 20:00.
Then on the 21st, we will be screening the documentary ‘Paris Is Burning’ to show BME and LGBT*+ history as it also Black History Month. This screening will be held in the Union Committee Room from 14:00-16:00. We will end the month with the LGBT*+ night and auction. If anyone wishes to get involved with the ‘Pride In Our History’ project, feel free to contact myself or the society via email.
