TAKING over the Cardigan Bay Gallery this Saturday is the Aberystwyth Spring Gathering, an all-day event bringing together the best of the local grassroots community projects in the day and some of Aber’s finest musicians by night.
Organised by the Freeriver Community, the Spring Gathering is a celebration of the dawning of a new season with different activities happening throughout the day. Opening their doors at 10:30 there will be stalls with handmade jewellery and clothes for sale, as well as works of art and smoothies. Events kick off from 13:00 with a poetry workshop with Mary Jacob, and there’s interactive sessions and experiences all through the day, including: meditation, sound yoga and even a lesson on Capoeira, a Brazilian fighting dance.
At 18:00 a Freeriver Community classic features, as they will take those attending through a Sound Bath, using traditional Tibetan singing bowls, bells and gongs to allow your mind to wander through a rich soundscape.
Filling the Cardigan Bay Gallery for the day, drum circles will be just one of the features of the celebrations.

As the night draws in and the musicians tune up you can see a whole raft of local favourites for a donation at the door, including but not limited to: Stu and Jack, Lazslo Xavier, Tommy Jenkins, The Mourning Moon, Phoebe Carys ‘Tingle’, Tony Cordon, 3form Tree, Sunday Club and Big Joe Bone as well as a freestyle music experience after midnight strikes and the clocks get ready to go forwards.
Stu Hampton, member of the Freeriver Community and event organiser, had even more to add about the festivities:
“There’ll be performance art taken from ‘Singing The Line Into Existence’ by Joanna Bond, visual projections from a number visual artists, some live comedy and even more to come. The event is a family friendly and a really uplifting event which is in support of a number of different charities including the Re-wilding Project, a Zambian elephant orphanage and the Freeriver Community project; a charitable project which aims to create a peaceful and loving community where people can live and harmonise with nature and the earth.”
